Hot/Cold: Week 11

June 4, 2019 by RayFlowers

We’re at the point of the season that we kinda know who players are. Are they performing up to expectations or are the struggling to live up to the hopes placed on their shoulders? That said, do we really “know” who players are? Is it possible that the guy that started out hot has seen his performance cave of late? Perhaps that slow starter, whose overall numbers are still lacking, has actually performed pretty darn well of late? Let’s investigate how these players have performed of late and see if they meet your expectations for the players.

K/BB LEADERS: Walker Buehler 15.00, Gerrit Cole 10.20, Hyun-Jin Ryu 10.00, Matt Boyd 10.00, Miles Mikolas 8.67, Shane Bieber 8.60.

Gerrit Cole has a 2.45 SIERA and 2.22 xFIP, so don’t pay too much attention to the 3.93 ERA. Owns an impressive 13.37 K/9 rate, second best in baseball behind Chris Sale (15.59). Speaking of Sale, his 3.34 ERA is a full run higher than the advanced metrics suggest (2.24 SIERA, 2.53 xFIP).

Kyle Gibson has a 2.73 ERA, 1.11 WHIP and 10.31 strikeouts per nine.

Zack Greinke continues to get it done. See the 2.87 ERA, 7.25 K/BB ratio and the 0.90 WHIP.

Rich Hill has a 1.80 ERA, 0.97 WHIP with 11.10 K/9.

Miles Mikolas has a 1.06 WHIP in addition to the K/BB thing. He also has an impressive 2.16 GB/FB ratio has his game is starting to come into focus.

Max Scherzer has a 1.85 ERA with a 5.0 K/BB ratio.
