Prospect Watch 2019: Week 10

May 28, 2019 by RayFlowers

Each week we will try to give a quick update on each of the top-40 minor leaguers that could help out in the fantasy game in 2019. Of course, there is an element of uncertainty with all of this as we never quite know when a team will decide to call up a youngster or if that role will be of the full-time variety. We will do our best each week to give you a quick reference guide as to where the elite youngsters are, and if they are performing well enough to bring their game to the Major League level. And yes, there are injuries in the minor leagues as well (if you thought injuries were merely limited to the big-league level). Teams are just gonna call up young players if they deserve to get a shot in the big leagues anymore, with seemingly no interest in the future and contract concerns. Maybe not. But it does seem that way recently, doesn’t it as guys like Keller and Smeltzer get their shots this week.

2019 Prospect Report TEAM POS LEVEL COMMENT
1 Kyle Tucker HOU OF AAA En Fuego in May: .360-11-27-24-5 with a 1.305 OPS.
2 Luis Urias SD 2B/SS AAA Continues to rake. Hitting .400 the last 10 to up line for year to .360/.457/.727.
3 Yordan Alvarez HOU 1B/OF AAA Amazing to see a .225 avg. the last 10. Still best hitter in minors (.371-20-63 with a 1.252 OPS).
4 Mitch Keller PIT SP AAA Promoted Monday and had a stinker for Pirates. Unclear at this time how long he sticks in bigs.
5 Ryan Mountcastle BAL 3B AAA 1B/3B, but also could try OF. Has gone .326-2-10 the last 10 games.
6 Dylan Cease CWS SP AAA May has been uneven: 3.45 ERA, 1.72 WHIP, .311 BAA 2.25 K/BB.
7 Carter Kieboom WAS SS AAA 4 HRs, 10 RBI the last 10 games. He owns a .333-8-32-28 line with a 1.073 OPS in 34 games in AAA.
8 Brendan McKay TB SP AAA 1 ER in 5 outings to drop ERA to 1.30. Owns 6.89 K/BB and 13.52 K/9 with .172 BAA.
9 Austin Hays BAL OF AA Still searching for game since injury. In 13 outings has a .565 OPS and 16 Ks.
10 Casey Mize DET SP AA Only a question of when? 10 outings: 0.97 ERA, 0.57 WHIP, 7.5 K/BB this season.
11 Logan Allen SD SP AAA 3 ER in 5 outings to lower ERA to 4.01. Batters hitting .198 last five outings as he has a 1.04 WHIP.
12 Jesus Luzardo OAK SP TBD The phenom could face hitters Saturday for first time in return from shoulder strain. Game action next month.
13 Monte Harrison FLA OF AAA 5 steals in nine games and 19-for-20 on year. Hitting .233 with 12 Ks his last 30 ABs though as contact still an issue.
14 Justus Sheffield SEA SP AAA Two walks in two starts. Only once in seven outings has he gone six innings.
15 Nate Lowe TB 1B AAA Has solid .389 OBP, but .252 AVG, .433 SLG and 3 HRs in 36 games leave one wanting more.
16 Jorge Mateo OAK 2B AAA .943 OPS in April and .878 in May. .891 against lefties and .918 against righties.
17 Matt Manning DET SP AA Appears ready. 1.44 ERA, 0.93 WHIP and 4.86 K/BB his last five outings.
18 Luis Robert CWS OF AA Still needs to solve lefties as he’s hit .125 with 10 Ks in 24 at-bats.
19 Zack Gallen MIA SP AAA The numbers are absurd: 0.65 WHIP, 7.27 K/BB, 10.69 K/9, .143 BAA over 67.1 IP.
20 Bo Bichette TOR SS AAA All his fellow prospects with TOR are up. He’s still working his way back from injury.
21 Sixto Sanchez FLA SP AA A bit troubling that with all that stuff batters have 33 hits in 26.2 innings.
22 Jon Duplantier ARI SP AAA Continually on callup/demotion train. Only 29 IP overall this season.
23 Devin Smeltzer MIN SP AAA 4.8 K/BB with a 1.15 ERA and 0.90 WHIP. Has held lefties to a .154 BAA, righties .258.
24 Dennis Santana LAD SP AAA Big arm, but season just not going well. 7.20 ERA in LA and 6.04 in minors.
25 Nick Madrigal CWS 2B A Five steals in nine games. Has .344 OBP on year and hitting .333 the last 10.
26 Forrest Whitley HOU SP AAA Getting worse? Last four: 10.1 IP with 21 hits and 21 runs allowed. Simply atrocious.
27 Zack Collins CWS C AAA W. Castillo was hurt, but Collins was not called on. Owns a .925 OPS and .547 SLG this year.
28 Tyler Beede SF SP AAA Seven dominant innings last time out (8K, 1 BB, 1 ER). Batters hitting .197 against him in minors.
29 A.J. Puk OAK SP E.S. Could see game action by the end of next month, and be in the bigs in the second half.
30 Nick Gordon  MIN SS AAA Healthy? Hitting .322. with a .829 OPS over 14 games with three thefts.
31 Anthony Alford TOR OF AAA A pulse! Hitting .325 with nine runs the last 10. Still… 11 Ks.
32 Nate Pearson TOR SP AA 6’6″ monster has a 1.32 ERA, 0.79 WHIP and .176 BAA in 10 starts. Only walked four all year.
33 Alex Kiriloff MIN OF AA Mere .663 OPS this year. Tremendous talent with bat that will have to force Twins hand. Hasn’t yet.
34 Kolby Allard ATL SP AAA Has a 2.11 K/BB ratio and a 6.58 K/9 with a 1.42 WHIP and 4.50 ERA. Just passing time.
35 Anthony Kay NYM SP AA K per frame, 1.28 ERA, 0.85 WHIP, .146 BAA over 10 outings. Just four runs last seven outings.
36 Yusniel Diaz BAL OF AA There’s a chance for promotion, but he’s still sitting on the IL and has been for over a month now.
37 Kyle Wright ATL SP AAA 2.0 K/BB in 6 AAA starts while allowing six bombs. Struggling.
38 Sean Murphy OAK C AAA Has a 1.024 OPS with RISP. Closing in on hopeful return to baseball activities (knee).
39 Bryse Wilson ATL SP AAA Crushing righties (0.94 WHIP) but having a hard time with lefties (1.59 WHIP).
40 Victor Victor Mesa LAD OF A Gone 3-for-43 which might signal the end of his chances for promotion this year.
