Prospect Watch 2019: Week 9

May 21, 2019 by RayFlowers

Each week we will try to give a quick update on each of the top-40 minor leaguers that could help out in the fantasy game in 2019. Of course, there is an element of uncertainty with all of this as we never quite know when a team will decide to call up a youngster or if that role will be of the full-time variety. We will do our best each week to give you a quick reference guide as to where the elite youngsters are, and if they are performing well enough to bring their game to the Major League level. And yes, there are injuries in the minor leagues as well (if you thought injuries were merely limited to the big-league level). Teams are just gonna call up young players if they deserve to get a shot in the big leagues anymore, with seemingly no interest in the future and contract concerns. Maybe not. But it does seem that way recently, doesn’t it?

2019 Prospect Report TEAM POS LEVEL COMMENT
1 Kyle Tucker HOU OF AAA Crushing it in May with a 1.282 OPS, seven homers and four steals. Ready for prime time.
2 Luis Urias SD 2B/SS AAA Last nine: four homers, nine RBI. Has a .433 OBP and 1.189 OPS on the season. Wasting away in minors.
3 Yordan Alvarez HOU 1B/OF AAA Alvarez just won’t stop. His last 10: .425-4-15. He owns a 1.349 OPS this season. #Amazing
4 Mitch Keller PIT SP AAA 50 Ks in 40 IP. Still, that 1.50 WHIP and 19 walks are a legit concern at the moment.
5 Ryan Mountcastle BAL 3B AAA Hitting .325 at home and .325 on the road. He’s at .367 in May with a .913 OPS.
6 Dylan Cease CWS SP AAA  Has a 1.86 WHIP in two May outings. He has a mere 1.73 WHIP against righties this season.
7 Jesus Luzardo OAK SP TBD Throwing from 120-feet. Hopes to return to game action by the end of the month.
8 Cavan Biggio TOR 2B AAA Has a .522 OBP in 16 day games. Hitting .259 with a .397 SLG in May.
9 Carter Kieboom WAS SS AAA Has 11 RBI and 11 runs, with a .314 average, the last 10 games.
10 Austin Hays BAL OF A Not hitting yet. In seven games, has a .143/.194/.250 line.
11 Forrest Whitley HOU SP AAA Has just one outing of five innings. Owns a 10.48 ERA and 1.84 WHIP in seven outings.
12 Logan Allen SD SP AAA Over his last 18 innings he has 20 punchouts with a 1.22 WHIP. Still, eight walks are less than ideal.
13 Casey Mize DET SP AA Five AA starts: 1.76 ERA, 0.75 WHIP, .168 BAA 5.80 K/BB ratio.
14 Justus Sheffield SEA SP AAA Gone 5 IP the last three. Still, eight walks against 17 Ks. Big arm, but little control at the moment.
15 Brendan McKay TB SP AA Has a 0.87 WHIP, a .184 BAA and a 6.63 K/BB ratio. Filthy dominant.
16 Luis Robert CWS OF AA His 17 AA games: .262/.338/.492 with two homers and five steals.
17 Monte Harrison FLA OF AAA Tearing it up with a .343 AVG and 6 SBs last 10. Has a mere .767 OPS against righties on season.
18 Jorge Mateo OAK 2B AAA 18 Ks last 10 show the serious downside. Upside is a .929 OPS and 11 steals on the season.
19 Sixto Sanchez FLA SP AA Only 15 Ks in 21.2 innings, and batters are hitting .295. Still, the stuff is elite.
20 Bo Bichette TOR SS AAA Still on the IL. He owns a career slash line of .325/.382/.516.
21 Matt Manning DET SP AA Just four runs in three outings. Has 53 Ks in his last 42.1 IP. Read for a promotion.
22 Austin Dean  MIA OF AAA Three homers .385 AVG the last 10. On the year that’s 1.108 OPS with 30 RBI in 33 games.
23 Skye Bolt OAK OF AAA In 33 games he has a .319/.388/.586 line. Also owns one of the best names in sports.
24 A.J. Puk OAK SP E.S. Had a 1.25 WHIP and a massive 184 Ks in 125 IP back in 2017 before TJ surgery.
25 Dennis Santana LAD SP AAA The 11 walks in 20.1 innings are a concern, but the dude owns a big arm.
26 Yusniel Diaz BAL OF AA Struggles to this point are pronounced. Owns a .651 OPS  with a .338 SLG in 20 games.
27 Tyler Beede SF SP AAA Has he been passed by S. Anderson in Giants’ starting plans?
28 Kevin Cron ARI 1B/3B AAA Flipping crushing. In 42 games: .333-21-60 with a 1.254 OPS.
29 Nick Madrigal CWS 2B A Finally. Working on a 7-game hitting streak and has nine hits his last five.
30 Sean Murphy OAK C AAA Bat looked sharp before injury. With elite level D, he could be a strong fantasy force.
31 Ian Anderson  ATL SP AA Just 3 HRs allowed with 52 Ks in 41.1 IP. Still, 10 walks in three and 6.10 per nine on year.
32 Bryse Wilson ATL SP AAA Eight walks in seven games. Has a 4.38 K/BB ratio with a 1.29 WHIP.
33 Zack Collins CWS C AAA Nine RBI the last 10 but with a massive 18 Ks. That’s 39 in 91 ABs, and that’s a legit concern.
34 Shed Long SEA 2B AAA Back in the minors. He owns a .293/.362/.510 slash line with a 0.46 BB/K mark.
35 Kolby Allard ATL SP AAA Righties are hitting .317 and he owns a pathetic 1.55 WHIP against them.
36 Nate Lowe TB 1B AAA Just .194 with no homers the last 10. Has only three homers in 31 games in AAA.
37 Jon Duplantier ARI SP AAA Up and down. Starting and relieving. Has a 1.42 WHIP in five minor league starts.
38 Anthony Alford TOR OF AAA The last 10 he has 13 Ks. That’s 49 in 34 games with a .190 batting average.
39 Nick Gordon  MIN SS AAA Just activated off the DL with an abductor strain. Looking like a lost season.
40 Kyle Wright ATL SP AAA 14 Ks and 4 BBs the last three. However, also nine runs allowed.
