Prospect Watch 2019: Week 7

May 7, 2019 by RayFlowers

Each week we will try to give a quick update on each of the top-40 minor leaguers that could help out in the fantasy game in 2019. Of course, there is an element of uncertainty with all of this as we never quite know when a team will decide to call up a youngster or if that role will be of the full-time variety. We will do our best each week to give you a quick reference guide as to where the elite youngsters are, and if they are performing well enough to bring their game to the Major League level. And yes, there are injuries in the minor leagues as well (if you thought injuries were merely limited to the big-league level). This week, we lose Nick Senzel from the list as he was finally brought up to the big league level by the Reds.

2019 Prospect Report TEAM POS LEVEL COMMENT
1 Keston Hiura MIL 2B AAA Hitting .424 the last 10 with four homers. That run pushes his OPS up to 1.185. He’s ready, but needs a spot.
2 Jesus Luzardo OAK SP TBD When healthy, he should push for a spot in the A’s rotation pretty quickly. ETA = Late June?
3 Luis Urias SD 2B/SS AAA His last nine: 5 HRs, 10 RBI, 13 runs. Owns a massive 1.207 OPS in 17 games.
4 Kyle Tucker HOU OF AAA Finally hitting. Last 10: .333-5-13-8-2. Finally.
5 Yordan Alvarez HOU 1B/OF AAA Even better the last 10: .526-3-12-14. Not on 40-man roster though, hampering teams ability to call him up.
6 Brendan Rodgers COL SS AAA Crushing it at .415 the last 10 with 11 RBI and 10 runs. That’s 30 runs and a 1.016 OPS in 30 games.
7 Mitch Keller PIT SP AAA Just one walk and 16 Ks his last two as he finally seems to be locked in.
8 Ryan Mountcastle BAL 3B AAA Has 21 hits the last 10 leading to a .429 AVG. He owns a .345/.370/.545 slash line on the year.
9 Forrest Whitley HOU SP AAA Truth? He’s just not performing. Through 14.2 IP: 10.43 ERA, 1.70 WHIP, .300 BAA.
10 Dylan Cease CWS SP AAA In 24.1 IP he has 30 Ks and seven walks. He’s got 16 outs just once in five outings.
11 Jonathan Loaisiga NYY SP AAA Back in bigs. He starts Wednesday versus the Mariners taking over the rotation spot of James Paxton (knee).
12 Willie Calhoun TEX OF AAA The last eight games: 4 HRs, 9 RBI, 10 hits. Season long OPS sits at .940 now with 15 BB and 14 Ks.
13 Cavan Biggio TOR 2B AAA Three homers and nine RBI the last eight games. He has 24 BBs and just 19 Ks in 28 games.
14 Touki Toussaint ATL SP AAA Back in the minors. He’s up and down. In the bigs he has a 6.35 ERA and 1.76 WHIP, mostly due to one game.
15 Austin Hays BAL OF AAA Inching toward a return to game action after missing everything to this point.
16 Austin Riley ATL 3B AAA Blazing hot with a .410-7-17 line the last 10. Has just 28 Ks in 30 games, an excellent number for him.
17 Logan Allen SD SP AAA Four runs and three walks in four games as he rounds into form. Ready to get big leaguers out.
18 Bo Bichette TOR SS AAA Two weeks in to what will likely be a 4-6 week return from injury.
19 Justus Sheffield SEA SP AAA Walks continue to harm. Has 23 BBs in 26.1 innings. Great stuff, but he’s just way off.
20 Dennis Santana LAD SP AAA Last appeared on April 25th. A big arm, but health, and role are up in the air.
21 Casey Mize DET SP AA Simply stellar work. Six outings: 0 HR, 2 R, 2 BB, 36 K. Astounding success really.
22 Brendan McKay TB SP AA Has walked six men in five starts with 40 Ks, a 0.81 WHIP and a .179 BAA.
23 Luis Robert CWS OF AA Had a 1.432 OPS at Single-A. At AA the number is 1.281. He has 8 HR, 9 SB in 25 games.
24 Monte Harrison FLA OF AAA Here come the Ks. 15 in 10 games. Has four homers, six steals and a .898 OPS overall.
25 Jorge Mateo OAK 2B AAA Three steals in three games and 10 on the year. Doesn’t have much pop, but boy is he athletic.
26 A.J. Puk OAK SP E.S. The big lefty, coming back from TJ, is facing batters in extended spring. Could get minor league clearance soon.
27 Sixto Sanchez FLA SP AA Finally out there, and impressive with a solid first game: 5 IP, 2 ER, 1 BB.
28 Zack Collins CWS C AAA 17 Ks last 10 though with 10 RBI and 10 runs. Has an impressive .983 OPS through 22 games with 26 RBI.
29 Ian Anderson  ATL SP AA 5-of-6 outings just three ER. Overall, 2.79 ERA and 1.28 WHIP with 37 Ks in 29 IP.
30 Yusniel Diaz BAL OF AA Struggling to find groove. Only one HR and .651 OPS through 20 games.
31 Brent Honeywell TB SP AAA Had another setback and has a possible nerve issue, this after shutdown for elbow issue. #VeryWorrisome
32 Nick Gordon  MIN SS AAA Finally playing. In three games he has three RBI/Runs and six hits.
33 Matt Manning DET SP AA Impressive 50 Ks and a mere 8 BBs in six starts (35.2 IP). All the levers are working.
34 Sean Murphy OAK C AAA Has an .862 OPS but will miss 4-8 weeks with torn left knee meniscus.
35 Kolby Allard ATL SP AAA 5-of-6 outings, 3 R or less. Still has a 1.43 WHIP and a poor 2.00 K/BB ratio.
36 Bryse Wilson ATL SP AAA Three BB in four games. Has gone 0-3 with a 5.68 ERA and 1.34 WHIP.
37 Kyle Wright ATL SP AAA Just 12 Ks with 17 runs allowed in 17.2 horrid innings thus far.
38 Nick Madrigal CWS 2B A Three steals the last nine. Has a solid .355 OBP, but his .738 OPS is pretty poor.
39 Victor Victor Mesa LAD OF A The 22 yr. old could come quick. Right now, he’s floundering though: .229/.257/.240 with six steals
40 Triston McKenzie CLE SP AA Moving closer to an appearance as he tries to work his way to the big leagues.
