Prospect Watch 2019: Week 6

May 1, 2019 by RayFlowers

Each week we will try to give a quick update on each of the top-40 minor leaguers that could help out in the fantasy game in 2019. Of course, there is an element of uncertainty with all of this as we never quite know when a team will decide to call up a youngster or if that role will be of the full-time variety. We will do our best each week to give you a quick reference guide as to where the elite youngsters are, and if they are performing well enough to bring their game to the Major League level. And yes, there are injuries in the minor leagues as well (if you thought injuries were merely limited to the big-league level). This week, we lose Vlad Guerrero from the list as he was finally brought up to the big league level by the Blue Jays.

2019 Prospect Report TEAM POS LEVEL COMMENT
1 Nick Senzel CIN Player AAA Has an 18-game hitting streak and reports hint he could be promoted to The Show Friday.
2 Justus Sheffield SEA SP AAA Down after short outing. He’s allowed four earned runs his last three starts in minors with BB being the issue.
3 Forrest Whitley HOU SP AAA Only nine innings his last three outings allowing 10 earned runs.
4 Keston Hiura MIL 2B AAA Continues to mash. Only needs an opportunity. Has a .318-7-17 line with a 1.033 OPS.
5 Griffin Canning  LAA SP AAA For more on Canning, click on his Player Profile.
6 Yordan Alvarez HOU 1B/OF AAA Pronounced “Jordan”, Alvarez cannot be stopped. His last 10: .375-5-17-11. Has a 1.310 OPS on the year.
7  Carter Kieboom WAS SS AAA We all know he’s with the Nationals now. Click on the link for his Player Profile.
8 Brendan Rodgers COL SS AAA Hitting a massive .410 with four homer and 14 runs scored the last 10. OPS is up to .999 on the year.
9 Kyle Tucker HOU OF AAA On pace for 30 homers and 20 steals, but also hitting .173 with a .221 OBP.
10 Jesus Luzardo OAK SP TBD He’s throwing again. He could return to game action by the end of the month.
11 Dylan Cease CWS SP AAA Has a 4.3 K/BB ratio and a 1.15 WHIP over five outings.
12 Willie Calhoun TEX OF AAA Has two homers and five RBI his last three with a .875 OPS in the year.
13 Mitch Keller PIT SP AAA Had 10 Ks last outing. That’s 32 in 25 innings but still has an unacceptable 5.04 BB/9 rate which is odd.
14 Touki Toussaint ATL SP AAA Rough last outing with 11 hits and four runs. He could be up and down all year with plethora of Braves arms.
15 Austin Hays BAL OF AAA He’s taking BP cuts coming back from a thumb issue. With Cedric Mullins demoted, there’s a big-league spot up for grabs.
16 Jonathan Loaisiga NYY SP AAA Up and down. Up and down. It’s likely to be that way with him all season long.
17 Dennis Santana LAD SP AAA Has struggled in two outings allowing six runs and four walks.
18 Cal Quantrill SD SP AAA For more on Quantrill, click on his Player Profile.
19 Logan Allen SD SP AAA Passed over for Quantrill. Allen has allowed five runs with three walks his last three outings.
20 Cavan Biggio TOR 2B AAA Has a massive .495 OBP this season with 11 walks, three homers and 10 RBI the last 10 games.
21 Austin Riley ATL 3B AAA Has hit .361 with three homers, nine RBI and nine runs scored last 10. Donaldson has a sore calf…
22 Bo Bichette TOR SS AAA He won’t need surgery but he will miss 4-6 week with a fracture in his left hand. We wont see him before the All-Star Break.
23 Sean Murphy OAK C AAA Slowing a bit of late, but he still owns a substantial .862 OPS and an impressive .402 OBA.
24 Brendan McKay TB SP AA Sheer dominance personified: 33 Ks, 4 BB, 0.86 WHIP in 18.2 innings.
25 Ryan Mountcastle BAL 3B AAA Has 12 Ks the last 10 but also hitting .341 with two homers. Looks pretty close to ready.
26 Yusniel Diaz BAL OF AA Just isn’t hitting yet. That .651 OPS is awful, but at least only 13 Ks on the season.
27 Monte Harrison FLA OF AAA Last 10 games: three homers, eight RBI, nine runs and 15 Ks. Has a .931 season OPS.
28 Jorge Mateo OAK 2B AAA Has a hit in 9-of-10 to push line to .352/.397/.546. Blazing fast, he has 7 steals in 10 attempts.
29 Sixto Sanchez FLA SP AA He will pitch this month, the Marlins swear. Tremendous talent being handled with kiddie gloves.
30 Zack Collins CWS C AAA Has a 5-game hitting streak leading a season long line of .275/.384/.623 with 21 RBI in 19 games.
31 Kolby Allard ATL SP AAA Control has been off with eight walks his last 13 innings with eight runs allowed.
32 Brent Honeywell TB SP AAA Still in a holding pattern after his recent “minor” setback. Best case in MLB seems to be late in year.
33 Casey Mize DET SP AA Dominance thy name is Mize. Still, he may not have much of a shot at the bigs this season.
34 Tyler Beede SF SP AAA Lost some luster, and heat, but will start Friday for Giants and has 1.99 ERA and 13.50 K/9 this year.
35 Bryse Wilson ATL SP AAA Has 23 Ks in 21.1 IP and has only walked four. Still has allowed 14 runs.
36 Nick Madrigal CWS 2B A Four steals his last 10 games but an underwhelming .282/.367/.388 slash line.
37 Triston McKenzie CLE SP AA Still strengthening his shoulder. He should be able to return to the mound this month. We hope.
38 Kyle Wright ATL SP AAA Season has been a disaster. After Braves hiccup – three AAA starts with 11.81 ERA and 2.16 WHIP.
39 Anthony Alford TOR OF AAA A great talent who just can’t hit. He’s at .499 in the OPS column in 19 games with 30 Ks.
40 Nick Gordon  MIN SS AAA Checked with an inside source, and there is just a total blackout when it comes to his health situation. Active now.
