It’s early in the year, so you probably have a pretty fair handle on the batters that are off to a hot start, or killing your squad with their less than ideal work to date. Ray Flowers still thought it to be worthwhile to take a look at the performance of those batters that have been producing runs, and those that have failed miserably to produce, the last two weeks. How many of the players do you own on each list? Oh, and Ray won’t be leaning on injured players in the Cold section. He will be talking about guys who have played, and stunk.
HOT – HITTERS
Tim Anderson has eight steals the last two weeks, two more than Adalberto Mondesi and three more than Trevor Story.
Charlie Blackmon was struggling in the early going, trying to find his game as well as trying to get home to play some games in Colorado. People were asking me if his age was catching up to him? Was he a wasted pick this spring? Well, so much for that. After going 3-for-4 Sunday, Blackmon has produced 10 hits his last 18 at-bats pushing his overall line to .286/.340/.462. Still think there is something to worry about?
Paul DeJong has a .404/.472/.660 slash line his last 12 games with 14 runs scored.
Josh Donaldson is back to mashing with four homers, a .341/.463/.705 slash line and 12 runs scored his last 12 outing.
Dexter Fowler is hot. Seriously. The last 11 games he’s hit .351 with a .415 OBP. He’s also 8-for-21 with a .458 OBP the last week.
Brian Goodwin is tearing it up. On the year he has a massive .346/.435/.615 slash line in 19 games. Has anyone noticed? I can’t remember the last time I received a question about him. The last week has he as .522 OBP in six games with two homers and five RBI.
Jose Martinez cannot field, but boy can he hit. The last 12 games he’s driven in eight, scored eight times, hit .441 and has a 1.045 OPS.
Brandon Lowe has a .298-5-12-8-1 line his last 12 games.
Marcel Ozuna the last 11 games has seven homers, 14 RBI and 13 runs scored with a 247 wRC+. He leads baseball the last two weeks with a .947 SLG.
Joc Pederson has a .783 SLG and seven homers the last two weeks.
Eddie Rosario started slowly, but he’s on fire now with eight homers and 15 RBI his last 11 games.
Carlos Santana has a .521 OBP the last two weeks, just ahead of Jason Heyward (.514) and Cody Bellinger (.509).
Justin Smoak has hit .405 the last two weeks with four homers and 13 RBI. He also has a league leading .542 OBP the last two weeks.
Fernando Tatis Jr. has four homers, three steals and a .458 wOBA his last 12 games.
Christian Yelich is on pace for a .353-92-218-162-21 season. I don’t even know what to say. He has hit eight homers with 16 RBI his last seven games. Since the All-Star Game last season, 88 games of action, he’s gong .364-38-98-81-13 with a .506 wOBA. That’s as great four month run as most of us have seen in our lifetimes.
Christian Walker the last two weeks: .410/.489/.718 with a .500 wOBA
Jesse Winker is only hitting .250 the last 12 games, but he has six homers, 10 RBI and nine runs scored.
COLD – HITTERS
The last two weeks…
Jose Abreu has no homers and a .200 SLG. Amazingly, he has two steals.
Jesus Aguilar has no homers, two RBI and a .166 wOBA. Teammate Ryan Braun is just slightly better with a homer, a steal and a .176 wOBA.
Tim Beckham, incredibly hot to start the season, was injured and he’s stunk since with a .190 average and .244 OBP the last 12 games.
Francisco Cervelli has hit .081, just ahead of the recently demoted Cedric Mullins at .095.
Brandon Crawford has been awful .140/.245/.140.
Adam Frazier has no RBI in nine games. Brandon Belt, Justin Turner and Ender Inciarte have one RBI the last two weeks. Mike Trout, Mookie Betts and Matt Carpenter had two RBI.
Josh Harrison has a pitiful .167 OBP. Yasiel Puig is barely better at .184, just ahead of Jesus Agular (.186).
Eric Hosmer was disappointing last year. This season has started out the same with a .174/.224/.283 slash line with four runs scored his last 12 outings.
Nomar Mazara has no homers, three runs scored, a .138 average and a .213 wOBA.
Kendrys Morales has one homer, one runs and two RBI in nine outings.
Stephen Piscotty has hit .220/256/.341 with a homer and two RBI in 10 games.
Jose Ramirez has two steals, but he’s also driven in just three runners while batting .125 with a .208 SLG.
Travis Shaw just hasn’t hit with a .167 average and .214 SLG his last 12 games.
Gleyber Torres has forgotten how to hit it seems with three RBI, a .180 wOBA and a three in the wRC+ column.
