Prospect Watch 2019: Week 4

April 16, 2019 by RayFlowers

Each week we will try to give a quick update on each of the top-40 minor leaguers that could help out in the fantasy game in 2019. Of course, there is an element of uncertainty with all of this as we never quite know when a team will decide to call up a youngster or if that role will be of the full-time variety. We will do our best each week to give you a quick reference guide as to where the elite youngsters are, and if they are performing well enough to bring their game to the Major League level.

2019 Prospect Report TEAM POS COMMENT
1 Vladimir Guerrero TOR 3B Promoted to AAA, it’s only a matter of time. In seven games: .360-1-6-5 with a 1.008 OPS.
2 Nick Senzel CIN Player Playing in extended spring games, he should be at AAA before the end of the week.
3 Kyle Tucker HOU OF Seven Ks last four games. He has a mere .411 OPS in 11 outings thus far.
4 Justus Sheffield SEA SP Much better last time out, but still 5 ER in 8.2 IP in two outings with 8 BBs.
5 Forrest Whitley HOU SP Horrible in last outing. Through two: 8 Ks, 3 BB, 7 ER in 6.1 IP.
6 Brendan Rodgers COL SS Has a solid .289/.385/.467 slash line with two homers. Only needs an opportunity.
7 Bo Bichette TOR SS Hasn’t hit yet with a .597 OPS with a poor 0.29 BB/K ratio.
8 Touki Toussaint ATL SP He’s up with the Braves, and it sounds like he has a shot to grab a starting spot. Can he hold it?
9 Logan Allen SD SP Really struggled first two outings leaving him with an 11.70 ERA and 2.60 WHIP in three starts.
10 Keston Hiura MIL 2B Hitting .342 with three homers and 10 RBI the last 10.
11 Willie Calhoun TEX OF The last 10 he’s hit three homers with seven RBI and eight runs scored.
12 Dylan Cease CWS SP Through two outings he’s walked one, struck  out nine and hasn’t allowed a run.
13 Jesus Luzardo OAK SP He is feeling better, but not throwing yet. Still sounds like a best-case is June in the bigs.
14 Nick Madrigal CWS 2B Has eight hits the last three to give him a .351/.390/.459 line.
15 Yusniel Diaz BAL OF Nine hits in eight games and just five Ks in 11 outings. Has a .765 OPS.
16 Sixto Sanchez FLA SP Will not make his first outing until May 2nd at Double-A as caution with workload remains supreme.
17 Michael Soroka ATL SP Only one walk in two outings against 10 Ks over 9.1 frames.
18 Austin Hays BAL OF Hasn’t played yet due to a thumb issue.
19 Dennis Santana LAD SP He allowed four runs over five innings with Dodgers. With the way the Dodgers use arms, he will be back soonish.
20 Cal Quantrill SD SP Brutal in his first outing, better-ish in second. Overall, not good: 8.31 ERA, 1.62 WHIP.
21 Austin Riley ATL 3B Hitting .182 with 13 Ks in 11 games with a .606 OPS.
22 Mitch Keller PIT SP Has walked six while allowing 11 hits and a 1.96 WHIP through two outings.
23 Jonathan Loaisiga NYY SP Appeared twice in the bigs, but still doesn’t have a minor league appearance yet.
24 Griffin Canning  LAA SP Two outings, 11 Ks, 2 BB and 1 ER. When an injury strikes in Anaheim, he will be ready.
25 Yordan Alvarez HOU 1B/OF Has already unleashed six homers leading to a 1.352 OPS in 11 outings.
26 Anthony Alford TOR OF Fifteen Ks and two BBs leading to a .212/.278/.485. He’s 1-for-3 in SBs too.
27 Kolby Allard ATL SP Has allowed one run in two outings though he’s only thrown 9.1 innings in the two.
28 Brendan McKay TB SP In his first outing he generated 11 strikeouts out of 14 outs. An electric arm.
29 Ian Anderson  ATL SP Allowed four hits and five walks in 8.1 innings with 10 Ks at AA.
30 Sean Murphy OAK C Has a 1.004 OPS in nine games with five walks. Josh Phegley crushing it with the bat in Oakland.
31 Monte Harrison FLA OF Has 8 Ks in five games, at least one each outing. Whiffs/contact are his key.
32 Zack Collins CWS C Average is down to .188 but he does have a 1.001 OPS with five homers and 14 RBI.
33 Triston McKenzie CLE SP Still convalescing from his back issue. Should be back throwing in a couple weeks.
34 Brent Honeywell TB SP Will pitch in extended spring this weekend. Hopeful of being active with the Rays in the second half.
35 Chris Shaw SF OF Back-to-back games with homers. Has a legit 25-30 homer bat.
36 Kyle Wright ATL SP Destroyed in ATL with 11 runs allowed over 14 innings. Walked 10. Just won’t work.
37 Casey Mize DET SP In 11 innings he’s struck out 15, walked none and allowed just a single run.
38 Nick Gordon  MIN SS Is still out with a stomach issue. Still.
39 Stephen Gonsalves MIN SP Has an elbow strain that has him on the shelf. It’s unclear how much time he’s going to miss at this point.
40 Ryan Mountcastle BAL 3B Has 9 RBI in 12 games, but also 12 Ks and a .692 OPS.
