Prospect Watch 2019: Week 3

April 8, 2019 by RayFlowers

Each week we will try to give a quick update on each of the top-40 minor leaguers that could help out in the fantasy game in 2019. Of course, there is an element of uncertainty with all of this as we never quite know when a team will decide to call up a youngster or if that role will be of the full-time variety. We will do our best each week to give you a quick reference guide.

2019 Prospect Report TEAM POS COMMENT
1 Vladimir Guerrero TOR 3B He’s 2-for-8 at Single-A, but should move to AAA soon and the bigs before the end of the month.
2 Nick Senzel CIN Player He’s out of the walking boot and will attempt to join the big league club by the end of the month.
3 Kyle Tucker HOU OF Six Ks in 10 at-bats as he looks to put the disappointment of not making the team behind him.
4 Justus Sheffield SEA SP Rough first outing allowing two homers, five walks and four runs over 4.2 IP.
5 Forrest Whitley HOU SP Only 137.1 innings in his professional career with 203 Ks and just seven homers allowed.
6 Brendan Rodgers COL SS Has a .500 SLG in four games. If that injury to the calf of T. Story proves to be serious…
7 Austin Hays BAL OF The luster is coming back with Hays. All he needs to do is to stay within himself. Currently has hand issue.
8 Bo Bichette TOR SS He’s off to a slow start the first week, but it won’t matter in the long run. Lots of offense is coming.
9 Logan Allen SD SP Blasted in his first outing 7 R (6 ER). He can pitch, and will start for the Pads this season.
10 Anthony Alford TOR OF He was up, and the demoted when Socrates Brito was acquired. Already has six Ks in four games.
11 Dennis Santana LAD SP The walks can be an issue. He could start or be used in long relief by the Dodgers this year.
12 Keston Hiura MIL 2B Been off in the early going with 11 Ks in 17 ABs. Make no mistake, he can rake.
13 Willie Calhoun TEX OF He has walked six times in four games leading to a .444 OBP. Just needs a spot, and an attitude adjustment.
14 Dylan Cease CWS SP Dominant armwith 377 punchouts in 286 innings. Reports surfaced that Sox tried to sign him to a long-term deal.
15 Jesus Luzardo OAK SP Luzardo still working on overcoming his health issue. He’s targeting a MLB debut near A.S. Game.
16 Nick Madigral CWS 2B Starts with Winston-Salem and hopes to end with the White Sox. Can rake.
17 Yusniel Diaz BAL OF Two RBI, two BBs last game. He’s good everywhere, but not great anywhere.
18 Sixto Sanchez FLA SP Looking to make his first start. Could come quickly with athleticism and dominant stuff.
19 Cal Quantrill SD SP Had a shot at rotation spot, but underperformed, much like he did most of last season.
20 Austin Riley ATL 3B Has two homers and five Ks in four games. Seems about right.
21 Nick Gordon  MIN SS Still on the DL with gastritis, but shouldn’t be there too long.
22 Luis Urias SD 2B Hasn’t sulked with a .333/.400/.556 line in four games.
23 Mitch Keller PIT SP Uncharacteristically walked five his first time out. Watch Jordan Lyles… Keller is close.
24 Michael Soroka ATL SP Five shutout/hitless innings with seven strikeouts in his first outing.
25 Jonathan Loaisiga NYY SP Big arm who walked three in four innings in first start. Will see time in NY, but might be out of pen.
26 Griffin Canning  LAA SP Pitchability if off the charts. Sharp first outing (5 K, 0 ER, 5 IP).
27 Yordan Alvarez HOU 1B/OF Blazing with four homers and a 1.614 OPS in four games.
28 Brendan McKay TB SP Sent to Double-A. The arm could be used this season. Career – .187 BAA and 11.35 K/9 in 98.1 IP.
29 Kolby Allard ATL SP A phone call away at AAA. He’s got a 2.93 ERA, 1.19 WHIP and .245 BAA in 65 starts.
30 Ian Anderson  ATL SP Seven Ks in his first outing, unsurprising given he has 286 in 246 career innings.
31 Sean Murphy OAK C He has two walks and four hits in three games. He could come quickly.
32 Monte Harrison FLA OF Has the talent to be a 20/20 performer, but massive contact issues. Dealing with a wrist injury.
33 Casey Mize DET SP Likely could get outs right now, but the Tigers will be patient.
34 Zack Collins CWS C Three homers, seven RBI and a 1.748 OPS in his three outings.
35 Touki Toussaint ATL SP Walked four in an abbreviated first outing. Still searching for that stable third offering.
36 Triston McKenzie CLE SP Will await a return from an upper back strain. Hoping to start throwing in a week or two.
37 Kevin Newman PIT SS Hit .302/.350/.407 in 109 AAA games last year. No power, but stole 28 bases.
38 Chris Shaw SF OF Had 24 homers and a .505 SLG in 101 AAA games. Has power, but lots of swing and miss.
39 Luiz Gohara ATL SP Threw just 77.2 innings last year and allowed 44 ERs leading to a 5.10 ERA.
40 Stephen Gonsalves MIN SP Could be AAAA player. In 24 AAA outings he is 10-5, 3.44 ERA and 1.26 WHIP.
